Recently I had the pleasure of creating my first book trailer for a biography. While this alone was enough to excite me, the fact that it was going to be for Oveta Culp Hobby made me all the more so. I mean, it could have been Abraham Lincoln, or Martin Luther King Jr., or even the holy grail of bio’s, Kim Kardashian. But no, this was to be for Oveta Culp Hobby!
Wait, who’s that you ask? My point exactly.
I could have ended up creating a book trailer for “yet another biography of…(insert famous person’s name here)” but instead I had the joy of learning as I created. Who was this person whom I had never heard of, and how was it that they were deserving of a published biography? My interest piqued, I set out to learn.
I turned my gaze to the all knowing magic mirror on my lap named Google, and asked my question: “Oh great and all knowing Google, who is this person Oveta Culp Hobby?” Google, as usual, did not disappoint. Numerous sites came up, referencing her and even noting some of her (as it turns out) MANY life accomplishments. What I found strange though, was the distinct lack of any biographical literature on her, barring of course the book I was to create a trailer for.
As I scrolled through the long list of her accomplishments, I could only ponder at how I hadn’t heard of her before. Finally, in one particular article, I read something about Oveta herself being somewhat shy to the idea of having people write about her. Debra L. Winegarten, the book’s author, was kind enough to send me a breakdown of Oveta’s life achievements to help me and as I continued to learn about the incredible life of Oveta Culp Hobby, I found myself thinking that here was a woman whose story needed told, whose strength of character and service to her country needed to be shared.
So, if you are in the same boat I was in, asking the same question “Who is this Oveta person, anyway?” – then go ahead and check out this new book trailer from Ink in Motion. Then go buy the book and read more about this amazing woman!
Or, ask the all knowing, magic mirror, Google. But be forewarned, he’s got about 57,700 answers.
